@Gulleko @CiaraNi There is a waterway near where I live called "the Bronx Kill" listen, buddy it's lovely. There are oysters and wetlands. It's wonderful. Stop being scared.

@futurebird @Gulleko @CiaraNi Fresh Kills landfill is the one that got to me. I now know that "kills" is Dutch for stream so it makes more sense.

@futurebird @Gulleko @CiaraNi there’s also the Murderkill River, which is just as redundant if you lnow Dutch because then it’s the Mother-River River. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murderkill_River

@jhavok @Gulleko @CiaraNi I thought they gave it that name to attract the seagulls.

@futurebird @Gulleko What a lovely contrast, that The Bronx Kill is the name of a nature wonderland. 'Kill' (or 'Kil') is also common in placenames in Ireland, an anglicisation of Cill, the Irish for church. But not as nicely startling as The X Kill, as it's usually woven in - Killarney, Killmallock, etc.

@futurebird @Gulleko @CiaraNi There's a housing estate near me called "Kill Abbey". We don't know who Abbey was, or what they did. (Kill comes from 'cill' which Irish for "churchyard")
