It’s so freaking annoying how #YouTube and their algorithm constantly try to serve clickbait and bullshit videos..I try to keep my feed limited to science, space and left politics but somehow they always try to throw in videos that are so out of place and clearly clickbait bullshitIf videos have dramatic titles or thumbnails that are just over the top I’ll skip them by defaultNo wonder so many people believe the most stupid shit these days with all these constant funnels everywhere

@stux You can use a different frontend. I use invidious. Sometimes youtube nerfs them, but they always win the leapfrog in a day or two, if not an hour or two.I don't have to create a google account and get datamined to use youtube, and I don't have to watch ads. Can recommend.

@stux The thing that infuriates me is the constant bombardment of medical misinformation, which ought to be illegal, not to mention “tactical” everything (really, though, can’t wait for tactical underwear) and products “the gubmint or Amazon doesn’t want you to know about”. My wife watches YouTube with DuckDuckGo and it eliminates a lot of the “targeted” advertising.

@stux Personally, my experience with YouTube improved greatly when I turned off watch history. They throw a fit and turn off the home and shorts tabs, so the experience becomes what you directly search for, your subs, and the videos directly linked below those videos. It’s not a perfect solution and it’s not scalable since people need to opt out of watch history, but for people who are looking at least clean up their own experience on the platform, it’s something.

@stux At present playback is somewhat borked using #FreeTube, but many years ago i exported my YT following lists and history and have been using FreeTube since.So, i don't see anything i don't follow in my subscriptions feed now... no shorts, can turn off recommended other videos but i allow them on the side (sometimes they're ok).I now use FreeTube to browse and then open links with a browser for anything i want to actually watch until it works fully again on linux.
