I remember hanging out in a cafe with a programmer who was snarking on artists who weren't "smart" enough to use something like POV-Ray and make their 3d art with blender instead, why not just use code to make everythingAnd my friend, who's both a programmer and an artist, said simply: "sometimes you just want to use your meat hands"

I think about this a lot. Sometimes you just want to use your meat hands!

It's especially funny because Blender is actually very programmable, both with its Python API, and also with Geometry Nodes etc.But it's powerful and great to be able to do things in many ways, and even better when those many ways can be combined.

@cwebber I’m a programmer but terrible with 3D modelling tools. Just the worst. But I’m also a potter and have made many teapots ;) 🫖 sometimes Meat Hands are the way

@auxonic @cwebber I saw a giant Utah Teapot in Smithfield in Dublin earlier this year. Was a real "reality is bleeding pixels" moment. The funny thing is the Utah Teapot started as a real physical object that then got modeled. Think it was suggested by the programmer's wife. The company that made the teapots didn't realize the connection until much later.

@auxonic @cwebber Here is the giant Utah Teapot from Dublin. Not the best lighting model imo.
