@a1ba >Be at a computer.>Cannot use the computer to do that really difficult copy-and-past operation (Ctrl+c/Ctrl+v or M-w/C-y) to copy-paste the IP addresses. How are people like that still breathing?Domains and .lan addressing exists so that you don't need to keep around lists of IP addresses that often need to change.

@k @a1ba The IP addresses need to be actually copy-pasted into DNS at least once, which smooth brains can't work something as simple as that out unfortunately.

@Suiseiseki exactlyit's just that some are taking "ipv6 addresses are too long" issue too seriously without an taking into account an obvious solution that exists and is being used already already, i.e. dns

@a1ba tor onions even fix the CGNAT and domain cost problem when it comes to hesting - you don't even need to care about IP or DNS or make any payment - you only need to copy-paste the .onion address, which can be used in any tor-enabled software (any software that supports SOCKS5).

@mittorn @a1ba (Amazingly the last time I faced that error it was in fact temporary and not permanent).GNUnet DNS (GNS) would ideally solve that.

@Suiseiseki @a1baMDNS, the world's most unreliable reliable thing. If I had a penny for every time it has borked up in some way, I'd be sending this post from Mars.

@bill88t @a1ba What do you expect from poetteringware? You can just use a decent DNS server like knot DNS and setup a private .lan tld and every client that uses the router for the DNS will get .lan addressing.
