Lycogala are not actually mushrooms, although they look like it. You can't even tell they're growing. They're clusters of amoebae, purposefully collected to form a gel ball full of spores for further reproduction. Neither a plant nor an animal, a truly strange case of life showing that our boxes may be valid, but our ideas always try to soapbox simplicity and cram everything into boxes we think we understand. In a piece of wood, you'll find something that will really mess up your sandal.#nature
