       So I went down a rabbit hole asking ChatGPT about the knowledge it's retained about me over the course of thousands of sessions, and I learned that it stores a bulleted list of things about you that it believes to be important enough to keep on file for reference in the long term. This was the very first entry when I asked for the durable notes data it stores.

       @Hoss I asked grok about this, and it apparently gets a seemingly random list of summaries of ten past chats as "potentially relevant memories".  I've seen it reference past chats before but never understood the mechanism since it never acts like it has memories.

       I find ChatGPT to be the most capable of all the big AI Chatbots for general use purposes, but for particularly spicy topics I know ChatGPT is going to be a huge faggot about I just fall back to Grok.

       I got the idea to ask CharGPT about how its memory works because I noticed it has a heavy recency bias while also occasionally referencing sessions from ages ago. Scrolling through the bulleted list of "durable notes" it's kept on me didn't do much to help me understand how it determines what's important enough to "remember". Most of it references random sessions where I was promoting it to write stories, but I've asked it to do a metric fuckton of random creative writing exercises over the years. I don't know what was so special about the specific sessions it cited that its systems determined it to be crucial user information it needs to keep on file forever.
