Live from DNS-OARC 45, happy Cascade launch day everyone! 🚀 There are now alpha packages available for Debian, Ubuntu, RHEL and derivatives. If you can’t wait for Arya’s presentation and demo at 16:35 CEST, you can already try to follow our installation and quick start guide in the documentation.https://cascade.docs.nlnetlabs.nl/Who will be the first person to show the log output of a zone signed with Cascade — will it be @jpmens, @bortzmeyer or a surprise challenger?#DNS #DNSSEC #LoveDNS #OARC45

@jpmens @nlnetlabs @bortzmeyer Let the record show that I signed first, but refrained from posting the screenshot because I'd never dare stealing stickers from JP.

@oli @jpmens @nlnetlabs Both of you are cheating, you did not published the DS record yet.(And I don't find yet in the documentation how to do it.)

@phicoh @oli @jpmens @nlnetlabs It does not display the DS, just the DNSKEY. OK, I can find one from the other but I'm surprised this feature does not exist yet.

@phicoh @oli @jpmens @nlnetlabs I understand (like OpenDNSSEC refusing to export the DS when state=publish). But the output could make it clearer.

@nlnetlabs @jpmens @alexband But the serial number is incremented three times per hour, I have to read the documentation and check my parameters.

@alexband @jpmens Personal preference: if it is free software, you may read the source code (and compile, to check that the source code you have is the real one). Also, should I need to send a PR (but, giving my knowledge of Rust, it is unlikely, it is more a matter of principle), I want to know if I can compile.

@alexband @jpmens Actually, when alpha and beta-testing, it is common, when I report a bug, that the author tells me "try this small patch, we'll see if it solves the problem". So, even in a language I don't know, being able to compile myself is useful.

@alexband @bortzmeyer @jpmens @nlnetlabs Is Cascade better than tools provided with #Knot ? Does it provide more features ?

@camille “better” is a very difficult word imo, and hardly applies here. Cascade is a signer only, )cf OpenDNSSEC) vs Knot- DNS being a full auth server and signer. Apples vs. Cheese sandwiches. :-) @alexband @bortzmeyer @nlnetlabs

@jpmens @camille @alexband @nlnetlabs Both Knot and Cascade do more than signing: key management is important, too.
