Personally I find it truly amazing to create something and just give it away for free, even better if I can also share the source for that given productI guess it’s the best way to give a massive f-you against big corpo’s on this planet. Not only do you tell people not to use corporate greed products but you also offer an alternative and even a way for people to create their own if they want toOfc I understand it cannot be the default but I do hope it will become more and more common

@stux It doesn't have to be this way. This is a choice because a few select people are very good at telling a story.The enshittification and enbeigening has been coming for a long time. Look at what is happening over here in the US. Even when they get everything they demand they still somehow play the victim.

@stuxThe middle ground imo. is selling the compiled software but providing the source under a Free Software license to the users. (That's at least what I do with my Minecraft stuff already and will try to do with my upcoming games as well)

@stux I know it’s not the same but I’ll often give something away for free rather than selling it. I’ve given bikes away for free for example. I feel good knowing it’s not impacted on someone’s finances and yet helped them.

@stux in some point in time it became a habit. I created and run few telegram groups for russian emigrants in Serbia with free adverts for services, events, trades and so on. There is a great sense of purpose and inner integrity when someone coerce you to do something "wrong" from your point of view and try to motivate it "you can earn money" and you simple answering "You have nothing to offer..."Next step will be practicing this approach on API level for some services from main projects.

@stux I've started to feel that way too. When I was younger, I wanted to make a living as an author or artist, and while it still would be nice, everybody everywhere is trying to get everybody's money at the expense of their own dignity at best, and the wellbeing of others at worst. So I don't mind being an unpaid creator. However, if others ( =AI companies etc) make money from what I do for free, it's still stealing.

@stux reading the stux tag and giving away something for free just made me think of the stux net malware... I know it's not intentional, and I don't wanna be mean here... Just thought it's funny, that malware is also given away for free. Albeit without the source, and the should definitely keep it entirely to themselves! 😅
