@vitalis rofl judging by the number of gouges in the wooden floor that's not an uncommon occurrence

@vitalis I have to wonder how he ended up doing that. Throwing a cut usually requires a solid, controlled grip and he managed a clean cut, then slung it backwards somehow?

my HEMA instructor taught me to keep a not-too-firm but not-too-loose grip, and to only death grip squeeze at the point of impact against your opponent before letting loose again until the next potential impact. when I first got into boxing years ago my boxing coach gave me the same advice which is to keep your fist slightly loose until the moment the punch lands, clenching as hard as possible at the end in order to generate more power.

@vitalis So probably going too loose after the final squeeze? Also to be fair I'm more accustomed to longsword which has the pommel to keep it from flying away in a loose grip.

yah I believe he was relaxing too much right after gripping firm through the cut. can't say I've ever lost control of my longsword behind me like this either and I think you're right that is has to do with the flared pommel grip design.

@vitalis @threetails I imagine if you grip too hard when swinging, it fucks up the fluidity. You want some slack so your whole arm doesn't end up tensed (which tends to happen when your fist is clenched).
