We ordered pizza from our favorite joint (Tomato Pie), Josh talked to the familiar person who answered. They didn't recognize the phone number, so he gives it. Ordered, gave credit card number used there for years. Can't take credit card. "We have a new POS system." (Point of sale, but that other meaning too turns out.)We scrabble the cash together.Delivery guy calls, can't find our house. Apple Maps has always got it wrong (google has it right, fwiw), so now we know they'd compensated for the error in the database. We get the pizza OK, paying cash.Order is wrong. So... what's the point of a database again? They might as well have used a spiral notebook. I've heard a version of this tale, or read it here, "we got a new point of sale system so nothing works" -- are database exports/imports now rare or something?Poor bastards at Tomato Pie have to fix all this shit software; we don't blame them, maybe the bosses, but it's a local place not corporate so probably not even them. We've been keeping more cash around, because things like this are getting common. It all seems quite crazy,

@tomjennings It’s also our favorite pizza joint. Now we have cash around too… just in case, for the same reasons— everywhere.

@tomjennings there is a LOT of "oh we'll just fix up those minor details after the upgrade" thinking that goes on, especially among the folks who just want to get the "upgrade" done
