Humans don't know the difference between fact and fiction. 10 years ago, GPT was really not much better than Eliza, now it can code. I have no problem imagining that in another 20 years it's going to be a lot smarter than most people imagine.

LLM is not the only kind of AI. I agree that the llms seem to be hitting a wall after consuming all available training data. It's going to take a revolution, not an evolution to reach agi, but it is inevitable if we can just skirt past nuclear war for a few more decades.

There's already an insane number of AI datacenters in the US, either in production or currently under construction. The thing is, you only need like 200 people to operate a quarter gigawatt datacenter, so manpower isn't really an issue.

Uranium is a terrible fuel. We only use it for power so we could have an alternative weapons pipeline.They built and tested 2 separate Thorium salt reactors at Oakridge for use in airplanes, but scrapped the technology when it was determined there was no way to produce plutonium from the decay chain. They would rather cancel the whole nuclear plane program than introduce a safer nuclear power technology that couldn't be repurposed for weapons.

Those were research reactors, so there are still issues to be solved. I think they will solve them and there will be commercial molten salt - also probably in our lifetimes, but I don't think that's what they're going to be deploying *right now*, because even if pressurized water kinda sucks, they have a ton of experience with it...

China has had a 2MW proof of concept plant operational since 2021 and is currently building a 10MW plant. Meanwhile India completed their prototype 500MW thorium plant last December.Since 1978 only 2 new uranium reactors have come online in the US, I'm not sure we have very much experience with it 🤷♀️
