I accidentally paid for a ¥200 charge with a ¥10000 note (meant to use a ¥1000 note). 🤦🏻 not sure if that was more the unfamiliar currency or just not being used to using cash these days in general

and of course the person i gave it to didn’t say anything to suggest this was surprising or rude, just very graciously gave me a large pile of notes back which i was super confused about until i got back to my room and figured out what happened

also the immigration line was long af and i definitely messed up the train transfer multiple times so it took me way too long to get to the hotel. i should sleep before any further misadventures

I think i was told “if you try to speak japanese you will just get spoken to in english anyway” but i have definitely needed to “eigo ga hanase masu ka? 😓” myself into mutually intelligible conversations
