Most men want a return to traditional gender roles, but women aren’t so sureWomen of both parties were less likely to support a return to traditional gender roles than men. Support for a return to traditional gender roles was highest among Republican men at 87 percent, followed by Republican women at 79 percent. You have to keep in mind tho "they just don't want to admit it to a pollster" is a thing, but not as common as pollsters want you to believe.The "Bradley Effect" -- Tom Bradley was polling ahead, lost his race for CA gov cuz he was black is the best known example. HOWEVER, the GOP was also pulling out all stops to prevent J Brown from becoming a CA senator that same race. The likely voter base pollsters calculated was wrong as well.

@LostInCalifornia In the UK, people tend to lie to pollsters when they are planning to vote conservative. There have been several elections where the polls wrongly predicted labour would win because of this.But I was mostly thinking of the poll where men said they wouldn't commit rape, but when the question was re-worded, most admitted they would. I suspect most progressive men would have a knee-jerk response to a question that used the phrase 'traditional gender roles'. But asking them how often they clean the toilet, or would they want to live with a woman who earns more than they do or expects them to do the housework might have yielded different responses.

@EatKnitSleepAgain That does happen. It's a pretty steep curb tho, 26% to 87%. Higher, probably. That high? No. Traditional roles means women stay home and even men can grasp that that means no 2 salary income families, and that the women they are interested in would not be as interesting.Also, the poll about rape - I remember another study, this one done by law enforcement about the number of rapes a convicted rapist does. They do most within a specific age range, and they rape multiple women, and account for a large percentage of the total.

@LostInCalifornia I'm sure men can grasp, in theory, that traditional roles means less income. However, in practice a lot of them seem to expect their wives/girlfriends to work full time whilst also maintaining a more traditional (i.e. the woman does everything) set up at home. A quick read through of relationships posts on reddit or mumsnet is enough to confirm that plenty men think this way.

@EatKnitSleepAgain I'm not talking about theory.I'm talking about men who sneer at non-career women.Yes, they want a woman who will cook and clean, raise babies and do the dishes while they play video games.They also refuse to date women who aren't interesting to them.

@EatKnitSleepAgain Thing is, I can tell you how conservative the US conservatiove movement is, and you'll accuse me of hyperbole.We are the nation that inspired Hitler. There are people who think we need to return to those times.There is a solid difference between the parties.
