       After completely leaving Facebook and Dead Twitter for year(s?) It’s interesting to see how the Overton Window has shifted and the people that remained do not seem to notice it. You could of course technically say it was me that changed and it’s only the distance itself was apparent, but I don’t think “supporting masked men kidnapping ppl off the streets” and “being comfortable with openly racist sexist rhetoric” was ever something I thought people I (used to) associate with would support.

       One even posted how the current republican party is the one that supports “traditionally” democratic values….Wat.Like “traditional” as in during slavery and pre-women-voting?Insane.Anyways.  I’m a firm believer that most of us humans have very limited control over HOW we are influenced so distancing as soon as you feel something is off is the best way to go.  So uhhhhhh….. yeah good luck democracy USA edition.

       @wjmaggos yeah I think the algo has a lot to do with this.  Tho the fundamental issue of limited cognition of us all will just give us all more echo chambers to live comfortably in…. I guess I’m not so sure about the algo being the issue or just witnessing how social power inevitably erodes most ppl’s belief system - essentially Asch Experiment conclusions unfolding in real life.

       @kangaroo5383 thanks, hadn't heard of that one before.yea we will also need a better education that will try to make us more interested in broadening our inputs and perhaps less conformist in our willingness to challenge any consensus.

       @wjmaggos great point about education, i remember reading about “inoculating” against cognitive biases like this by preempting exposures with a real understanding that it’s a definite possibility to watch out for etc.  o look…philosophy, psychology, the “soft” sciences that ppl say are useless 🥲
