Went for my three monthly review with my oncologist yesterday. For some reason my scan results had been held up.They said there was something on my lungs, but nothing to worry about. There is an expression I hear sometimes, " Scanxiety "Now I understand what it means.

@stannard I was listening to an Imperfects podcast ep this morning sort of about this, "the certainty of uncertainty". Not knowing is a universal condition...https://omny.fm/shows/the-imperfects/the-certainty-of-uncertainty

@stannard Went through this after a high PSA test, decided against a biopsy, as the test is only 25% accurate, which meant that there was a 75% chance that I didn't have cancer.6 months later had a hi-res MRI, and diagnosis was not cancer but BPH.PSA is till tested every 12 months.

@wyliecoyoteuk I am aware of the inaccuracy of the PSA test, However we dont have many options, I was given a DRM or finger up th ebackside test and told my prostate was fine. She was a locum and as an afterthought she said, there is ablood test we could do, Would you like me to take some blood. My PSA was 208. You may understand why I am pro PSA tests. Without mine, I doubt if I would still be hereAll this was 10years ago, and I get a psa every three months and generally is it around 1.** But last year it went up to 14, then 18, They changed my meds and it dropped againPleased to hear you are on the annual check.

@stannardI didn't say I was anti-PSA.My PSA was 4.5, which was high but not exceedingly so at my age. When I had the HRMRI 2 years later, it had risen to 5.2.I made an informed choice and didn't have a biopsy, mainly because I had a friend who got an infection afterwards and ended up in hospital despite the biopsy being "inconclusive".We all have to make our own decisions on the probabilities.Nowadays HRMRI is recommended before a biopsy.
