The paracetamol thing is dumb. I'm sure it has SOME effect because otherwise Trump wouldn't have called it out, but it's pretty obvious from basic world maps that it's not THE CAUSE.This also kind of says that he knows the cause and doesn't want to say it. Probably when he makes the announcement that there's gonna be an announcement, all of the pharma guys jump on his dick and he changes the script to the version that doesn't say anything...

Okay, but there are more Americans who eat seed oils than paracetamol, so by your logic it could just as easily be seed oils. What I'm saying is that a single data point (country) isn't enough, and when you start looking for correlations between countries, the paracetamol theory doesn't hold up that well.

Seed oils are in *everything* so yes, most people are eating them every day. And how do you define "overdosing"? If it's "taking enough to cause damage a fetus" then how can you claim people aren't "overdosing" on seed oils?

       > because it causes liver damage, therefore it damages the fetusEstablishing cause and effect is actually not hard, you don't need to do all of these logical leaps. What you do is take 2 cohorts of people who are otherwise similar except one of them takes the drug and the other one doesn't, then compare outcomes. And you don't even need to setup the experiment, you can just compare countries like I did in the beginning ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@cjd I mean, you either have to reason with the available data, or you have to make a logical point. There is no mechanism that seed oils could cause this, there is study's proving that acetaminophen does.

You could probably gather that data on every drug and then just run it through a stupid ML algorithm with autism statistics and spit out a list of all the risk factors.

@lain @dcc @cjd > nobody in Germany takes paracetamol and they’re still all autists, qedbut germany takes ground beef expiration really seriously. like as soon as the clock strikes 23:59 the household is rushing to the pan to cook it, otherwise zombies. and the tylenol bit is smoke and mirrors. people are so easily influenced these days. i haven't seen anyone cause liver damage or worse with acetaminophen unless they were making a deletion attempt on themselves. had to transport a couple of them in my time as a medic. it's one of the worst ways to die.

@dcc @lain @cjd > Better to be skeptical of whats safe rather than be the other way around.it's beef at 23:59 of expiration date. not a bottle of ex-lax that's ham-flavored. but to your point, you don't go to the dentist office to get n2o which is generally safe and become skeptical that it's really a nerve agent, do you?

There's actually a good reason to be *less* skeptical of N2O than other things: It's a gas, so it leaves the body quite fast, so if it doesn't do any immediate damage, it won't do any long term damage either.

@cjd @dcc @lain especially since they cut it with 50-55% o2 and won't drop the ratio any further per general med protocols. however, there are some particularly older males (our age and older) who randomly go tach/arrest after they are flushed with oxygen. it's not common, but yes in general no need to be skeptical of the dentist. she's a nice lady.
