@futurebird Electricity.But of the options available, the Internet. Smartphones are also significant, but only because of the Internet.(Even some dumbphones had web access, but WAP didn't make a spash because it just wasn't very good).

@futurebird Electricity, actually. Without electricity we wouldn't have been a civilization we are. but from what you proposed, Internet so far, maybe LLMs also but in the nearest future.

@futurebird I was going to say "Internet", but I've lived through that. Helped build some of it, actually.The thing that gave everyone access and really changed things worldwide was smart phones.

@futurebird Without the Internet, none of that other stuff even exists. Even through them it's what has the most influence.(Come to think of it, in an alternate timeline where LLMs were trained on encyclopedias and books without the Internet, they wouldn't be able to produce the text patterns that look like reactive human speech and no one would even be fooled by them...)
