Is there somebody who migrated a fairly complex #Syncthing setup to something else like #NextCloud?I've got ~100 different shares with ~40 Linux/Windows/Android hosts. As Syncthing getting more and more unreliable not just on Android (using the fork) but also the desktop, I need to replace this very important part of my software stack to something better and I'm unsure what promising candidates there are for me ...Quick brainstorming on my requirements:- global discovery service (sync between hosts of two different private LANs)- direct/fast sync on same LAN- no need for public IPs or port forwarding- multiple shares/host even for small shares- reliable sync within a deterministic time frame- appropriate handling of sync conflicts- FOSS- works with Linux and Android (I don't care about Windows any more)- runs as a service in background- no particular issues with SW updates#PIM #enshittification @syncthing

@publicvoit @syncthing Interested in this, but the first 3 bullet points might limit you to syncthing...

@publicvoit@syncthing #Syncthing #PIM #enshittification If you want to do this without a central server (e.g. #Nextcloud) then you need a p2p solution and I know only of #syncthing in that regard. But kagi-ing did find others I know little or knew nothing about.. 🤷.. that might or might not check all your requirements.Ouisync, resilio, dc++, ipfsPersonally I gave up on fast LAN sync and use Nextcloud. It works very well, but is not perfectly hassle free either and works differently.

@publicvoit @syncthing if you find out, please make it a talk for Grazer Linuxtage!

@publicvoit @syncthing How exactly is Syncthing getting more unreliable for you? What in particular should I pay attention to?

@publicvoit I just didn't get 'round to upgrading yet.I really, really hope that1) your hashtag #enshittification is overdoing it and that2) @syncthing get on top of things before you switch and I upgrade…

@me @syncthing Well, at least I got most current issues resolved after I updated to the lastest versions and full-power-cycled all hosts involved. For now. However, this silent sync-error rot gets unnoticed as long as I don't watch the UI (or logs) all the time. Because of that, I almost caused much manual repair effort if I had not noticed this stuck situation that early (by coincidence).Again: I may be able to recover with manual effort and a certain level of frustration. However, I can't recommend Syncthing to non-tech-savvy people any more. They would face data loss and could not recover by themselves. So I am still looking forward to have some alternative on the horizon - doesn't looking that way at the moment. 😔 And yes, with lots of things going on these days (Google killing Android as FOSS, misc nasty issues with my new notebook running GNOME, still ongoing Syncthing-fork issues to render it useless for certain shares, ...) I have the impression of things going south.

@oraculix @xro I consider any device from the ISP as untrustworthy. Therefore, I only use its RJ45 jack where my own OpenWRT router listens which is doing all my services like DHCP, NAT WiFi, ...So I avoid all security risks of the ISP router and stay in control of my own process. As long as the ISP devices don't filter too much, that works.

@publicvoit @xro I also consider any device from the ISP as untrustworthy.Vodafone, however, added insult to injury: When I tried to use their FTTH router as a simple modem and let my trusty old FritzBox do the routing, dhcp and DynDNS, the Internet connection broke regularly after a seemingly arbitrary time span (from minutes to several hours). Their customer support be like: "we detected another router in your network that is not compatible with ours". WTF?!
