I loathe these ads trying to convince Californians not to all us to redistrict in response to extremist rightwing states. Yeah, let’s just sit here and let Texas and Missouri and friends totally rig all future elections while we sit here and smile smugly.Taking the high ground when the opposition is cheating is just another way to spell “losing”.

I just hate them because someone is wealthy enough to pay for ads like that. They could be telling California to abolish private property, and I'd still call for the immediate redistribution of the wealth of everyone involved. That kind of wealth shouldn't be allowed, for this reason. Wealth turns democracy into fascism.

@cy @tek I sometimes wonder how different politics would be if wealth was distributed evenly. (Not like a Marxist revolution, but a revision of the financial system.)

That uh... is a Marxist revolution. They'll literally kill us all to prevent a revision of the financial system. Cities wiped out, mass graves, the lot of it. That's why people revising it seem so extreme. But yeah I do too.... Mostly I just try to help people survive in it, and live without depending on money where possible.CC: @tek@freeradical.zone

@cy @tek I meant something without political violence and more about compounding interest.

Peacefully requiring that (f/i) compound interest be classified as an illegal pyramid scheme will cause political violence, against you. You can't escape political violence because they aren't fucking around. They will end your life if you start fixing the system.Though if they do, the news will swear up and down that it's apolitical.CC: @tek@freeradical.zone

@cy @tek Not quite what I have in mind, but compounding interest has interesting effects, sure.

Same effect as pyramid schemes, quacks like a duck etc. But feel free to disagree, it was just an attempt at an example. My point is the wealthy are violent against any solutions, so any solution is going to have violence.CC: @tek@freeradical.zone

@cy @tek No disagreement. I don't expect people to (accurately) compare the financial system to a pyramid scheme.

All I really know is that compound interest gets debtors paying more money than they agreed upon. Just like the ones who thought they were getting a deal on tupperware... or a low mortgage in 2008.CC: @tek@freeradical.zone
