#Trump on Friday signed a proclamation that will require a $100,000 ANNUAL #visa fee for highly-skilled foreign workers & rolled out a $1 million “#GoldCard” visa [that of course has his face on it] as a pathway to #US #citizenship for #wealthy individuals, moves that face near-certain #legal challenges amid widespread criticism he is sidestepping #Congress. #law #immigration #NationalSecurity https://apnews.com/article/h1b-visa-trump-immigration-8d39699d0b2de3d90936f8076357254e

#Trump announced he will start selling a “#GoldCard” #visa with a path to #US #citizenship for $1 million after *vetting*. For companies, it will cost $2 million to sponsor an employee. The “Trump Platinum Card” will be available for a $5 million & allow foreigners to spend up to 270 days in the US without being subject to US #taxes on non-US #income.#law #immigration #NationalSecurity

Doug Rand, a senior official at #US #Citizenship & #Immigration Services during the Biden admin, said the proposed fee increase was “ludicrously lawless.”“This isn’t real policy — it’s fan service for immigration restrictionists,” Rand said. “#Trump gets his headlines, & inflicts a jolt of panic, & doesn’t care whether this survives first contact with the #courts.”#law

@Nonilex It’s almost like he wants to make the United States, the Grand Cayman or Dubai for rich people globally.A nation by for and of the filthy rich.

@Nonilex my first question, and I’m very surprised that this isn’t every journalist’s first question, “who’s getting the money? Like a person paying $100k annually or the exorbitant amount for the other visas, where is this money going? if the government is making a profit, who exactly shares in that?”

@Nonilex And just wait for the retaliatory visa fees that'll make it much harder for Americans to seek work (and quite possibly also travel) abroad. Yayz.

@Nonilex The executive doesn’t have the legal authority to do this. Of course, he also doesn’t have immunity for illegal acts, but the Supremes decided to wipe their butts with that part of the constitution. Maybe they will wipe their noses with this part.
