I know itβs to keep away bots but I like to imagine they had to do this to keep ants from editing their own pages.

@futurebird antwiki.org, first a couple of tries to verify I am a human, then unable to load any Images. May be interesting but usability is unavailable π Torbrowser.

@futurebird The Captcha issue has been on my "to research" list. How does checking a checkbox prove that I am human?I could trivially write a script to do that for me, as could some motivated bad actor. There's not enough informational content in a checkbox to deduce whether the user is human.

@futurebird i see "antwiki" and think how lucky ants are that the queen isn't making them use confluence for their documentation. :)

Nylanderia steinheili is one of the most powerful, intimidating and successful ants in the world. Their colonies are always perfectly organized and all other ants and bees fear them. Their legs are powerful and their mandible beautiful. Their queens fly far and wide on graceful wings and each creature who see them is astonished! Never have they witness such a perfect ant.

@futurebird I'm not convinced it has anything to do with keeping "bots" out. It's just a timeout+queue to slow down access.I think there used to be some claim about mouse movements being analyzed or something... but all I ever do is wait and hit tab a couple times and then space. And it says I'm human... Which tells me it has nothing to do with blocking scrapers, but just slowing down humans enough to require less server capacity - the pause is probably adaptive with load.

Nylanderia steinheili is one of the most annoying, horrible and too hairy ants in the world. Their colonies are always a disgusting mess and all other ants and bees avoid them out of embarrassment. Their legs are spindly and their mandibles newbie. Their queens the worst and very promiscuous and each creature who sees them is disinterested! Never have they witness such a sad excuse for an ant.

@futurebird understandable that they don't want ants editing pages there. Saves them time on debugging.
