I know the switch from keysend to lnaddress is hard - but it will be worth it once more wallets and neobanks adopt Lightning Address. For example here in the UK - Revolut has 10m UK customers - they are adding support for Lightning - https://www.lightspark.com/news/lightspark/revolut-lightspark-announcementWill they support keysend? I'd say there's less than 1% chance. But Lightning Address is becoming the standard and if 10m Revolut users get access to a Lightning Address that will open the door to more adoption of Podcasting 2.0

@merryoscar That's definitely a 0% chance, since it had been deprecated years ago, not even mentioning ease of use/understanding for customers.

@raucao @merryoscar I haven't found any documentation or announcement of it being deprecated. I'm not sure what @dave was referencing in the last show.I don't see why they would deprecate it either since it just works at this point. There's nothing they need to do to keep it working.

@ericpp @raucao @merryoscar I was referencing something that @brianoflondon had told me. I may have misunderstood him. He's actually referenced in the official LND docs, so I took his word for it:https://docs.lightning.engineering/lightning-network-tools/lnd/send-messages-with-keysend#docs-internal-guid-5736b677-7fff-7369-1bb3-cf686146b756It's possible that it's "deprecated" in the same way that the marquee tag in HTML is deprecated. We're going to tell everyone not to use it, but it'll never actually be removed.

@ericpp @raucao @merryoscar @brianoflondon Maybe Brian can pipe in and give a reference or tell me I misunderstood him.

@ericpp @merryoscar @dave I'm not sure who "they" is supposed to be.In LND, it's described here in the sample config for 4 years now: https://github.com/lightningnetwork/lnd/blob/master/sample-lnd.conf#L520-L523And the default has been set to not accept keysend payments over 2 years ago: https://github.com/lightningnetwork/lnd/commit/178f646692e7911d635af7d478cac4d8dae0c60e

@raucao @ericpp @merryoscar Reading that linked sample config, this does look like <marquee> level stuff. "Don't use this because it's going to go away." (proceeds to never go away)

@dave @ericpp @merryoscar @brianoflondon Yes, that's likely. Also, it's not deprecated in favor of Lightning Address, because LN Address is outside of the Lightning Protocol and requires HTTP servers. The actual/native replacement would be Offers I think: https://github.com/lightning/bolts/pull/798The problem with keysend is that, as Oscar mentioned, nobody will implement this in new software, and there's already a lot of software that doesn't support it. Meanwhile, Lightning Address has gained enough popularity.

@raucao @ericpp @merryoscar @brianoflondon Agreed. It might not ever be truly deprecated, but it might as well be if most wallets don't support it.

@dave @raucao @merryoscar It's interesting that the replacement for it (amp) is set to default off as well.

@dave @ericpp @raucao @merryoscar https://lightning.engineering/api-docs/api/lnd/lightning/send-payment-sync/#restThat's the call on LND which I used to send Keysend. It should be replaced by routerrpc.SendPaymentV2 but I couldn't make that work, maybe it is possible, i can't remember why it failed for me.

@brianoflondon @ericpp @raucao @merryoscar Thanks Brian. So they deprecated the API for sending keysend even though keysend is still actual in there. You just can't get to it through RPC now.

@dave @ericpp @raucao @merryoscar it might be possible to use the streaming rpc call (in fact my version 2 code does use that call for sending Lightning) but it was such a heavy lift for me to send keysend that when it didn't just "work" with the later call I gave up.It really is a bit of a dance to get it working.
