@Susan60 I'm sorry, but no.Those farmers are pretty wealthy and educated, and they knew damn well what would happen as a result of their votes.Yes, the people wealthier than them are more to fault for this. The billionaires are far more responsible than the millionaires.But that still doesn't let the millionaires off the hook.

I feel sorry for them because there’s nothing so galling as realising that the terrible situation you’re in is a result of your own stupidity/hubris etc. But it’s a very hard lesson that they need to learn. Sadly some will be so arrogant that they will still manage to blame someone else.

@Susan60 There are a very large percentage of the population living uncomfortably near or below the poverty line, which is far less than someone needs to actually live.A lot of people in THAT demographic listened to the mainstream media when they made it sound like Trump would bring prices down and make life more affordable.A lot of the people in that group are working multiple jobs and don't have time to read a newspaper. When the mainstream media turns into Fox, they have no defense.😣

A lot of racism is self-perpetuating, and it is a means to allow wealthy people to manipulate white people.Racists are self-hating white people spreading the means of their own enslavement. Some of what racism is happens at a subconscious level.With the media, it's hard to tell how much of it is deliberate and how much is just because they themselves are more racist than they realize.

@cy If you're applying Hanlon's Razor, the deed is already done. Approaching the perpetrator without adopting a stance of accusation is going to get better results regardless of their motives. A combative stance will be met with the same. Genuinely asking for assistance in understanding is a whole lot more likely to get that explanation, with the added bonus of possible actual contrition.It's not about being naively vulnerable. It's protective: easier to leave stupid alone than evil.

Manipulators absolutely love someone approaching them genuinely, asking for assistance in understanding. They'll be charismatic and approachable, and you won't be able to believe that such nice folks could ever be evil fucks. We had a roofer once who swore up and down that there was deadly amounts of mold and we had to buy a $34,000 roof replacement immediately right now because it's more mold than he's ever seen. He was very serious about it, and wouldn't leave until my mother signed the contract.She was so convinced he was genuine, it wasn't until I went up into the attic and found precisely zero mold that she took me seriously. The roofers we ended up going with charged $21,000 for the same job.

She kind of did that, but at least agreed to getting a second roofer to take a look at it. I'm just really careful before assuming Hanlon's Razor. My dipstick is if the ignorant action causes the ignorant to benefit at other people's expense, then they're evil dicks until proven otherwise. It still might be coincidental, but the greater the benefit, the less benefit of the doubt I grant the perpetrators. It's never black and white though. For all I know, maybe Elon Musk is just really excited about space ships!
