Why is opensource using #clang 99 so often? There are never versions but somehow 99 seems to be the standard? Or maybe I'm just wrong?

The reasoning seems to be: C99 added enough on top of C89 to make it very useful (especially single line comments and the ability to declare local variables anywhere within a function), while also adding some "wonky" features like VLAs.Every new version of the standard added more wonky stuff that (for many people) is no longer "in the spirit of C", and is not considered all that useful. So using C99 (while avoiding features like VLAs) seems to hit a sweet spot for many C enthusiasts.@mms
