       @Honkmunclus Back when Jedi came out and Leia said she remembered her mother being sad fans assumed that Vader's wife/lover left him when he turned and only then discovered she was pregnant, thus Vader not knowing that there were twins until he reads Luke's mind in Return of the Jedi.But then you can't have Anakin turn to save his pregnant wife.

This was the guy, after all, that gave us not only SW, which was a mystical beast back then, but also Indiana Jones! Two of the biggest and most fun movie franchises ever.        @Honkmunclus @judgedread I was a teen at the time and had lived, eaten and breathed SW since I was a child.  It was almost like a religion for me.  To say I was excited the understatement of the century.  It was like the Second Coming, anticipating that movie.I was expecting clone wars, Obi-Wan instructing Anakin, lightsaber duels, space fighters - what I got was 2.5 hours of Jar-Jar Binks, midichlorians, some faggot in red makeup doing ballet, ersatz Chinese jew frogs, pod racing, and some non-existent character with the improbable name "Qui-Gon Jinn".  I'm sure I watched the other two in the theater, because I remember burning with anger at the fake/gay Boba Fett origin story, but I know it wasn't opening day.Disney was supposed to be the Chosen One; they paid BILLIONS for the canon and now they would turn on the magic after that one note retard Lucas botched it.  Nope.  Timothy Zahn was the zenith of SW and it died after than - the shambling corpse is still drag out now and again as a very expensive joke.

       @CommanderCulture The key error was pandering to kids because he makes most of his money from the toys. Ironically Lucas did not understand what kids wanted. Ewok toys never sold, that's why the Ewok animated series figures are valuable collectibles - almost no one bought them when they were new and the line was cancelled soon after.That's why he started with Anakin as a small child.Kid heroes very rarely work, and making them work requires such a delicate balance that only a literary genius can manage it - J.K. Rowling being the most recent example. And even she has Harry Potter be a victim of forces he does not understand most of the time, structuring the books as mysteries not action adventure.
