       I've made the comparison before, but in light of a recent wave of discourse making its way through Bsky, saying that AI can do some useful things is a bit like saying the police get cats down from trees.Sure, it's true, but only because the police have absorbed valid and useful duties from other parts of government — duties that don't require someone with a gun to perform.

       @xgranade I strongly recommend "The End of Policing" by Vitale on this subject: basically everything we Americans call on police to do is demonstrably better done by people without guns

       By that analogy, there's tasks that are currently being delegated to LLMs that don't actually *require* having O(the internet) training data and O(small country) to perform.
