Gen 4 was fun, a lot of people had a game because the DS is the best selling handheld console of all time, there were great spinoffs like Pokemon ranger and mystery dungeon: explorers of sky, and it was early Internet days where people could enjoy talking about it without the modern political baggage. The gameplay loop was okay, it played like FGO (derogatory), but the monetization for the game made it a fucking pain to play. Characters didn't unlock their super until you had enough copies of them, which meant the only way to see real use out of some of them was to whale.

One of the welfare story units you get really early is Kazuma (the original body Terumi possesed pre Great Dark War). In spite of him being free and having an early farming mission, the daily cap ensured it would take a month of grinding daily to be able to get him high enough rarity to unlock his NP.
