@theDanielJLewis So far as I can see, it doesn't actually support them. Try PodClock S1/14 which is a raw MP3 file with just a podcast:chapters list.PodClock S1/16 is an MP3 file with ID3 chapters, and it supports the chapters there just fine.(Unless I've messed up?)https://podnews.net/podcast/i8xeg

@DavidMarzalC @theDanielJLewis It looks like they've quietly removed the mention of podcast:chapters in the last six hours.

@james @theDanielJLewis Thanks, let's hope they are just waiting to get the app updated until surfacing the info on the web again.

@DavidMarzalC @james I was thinking it's an OS 26 thing for Apple Podcasts.

@theDanielJLewis @DavidMarzalC I'm running iOS26 - the chapters are not appearing in the app. Just a reminder, though, that the app itself doesn't do much: I'd expect the actual parsing of the chapters to be done by a server on Apple's behalf. In fact, it dimly occurs to me... I can check that. Let's see who has requested that file so far...Aha. The chapters file I put into the PodClock file has been requested by 17.241.75.180 - a machine belonging to Apple's network and is in Cupertino. The useragent was "itms", which is the standard one Apple Podcasts tools use.

@theDanielJLewis @DavidMarzalC That IP address is also used by AppleBot - https://support.apple.com/en-gb/119829 - but when I filter for just "itms", the Apple Podcasts related traffic, you can see it grabbing the main Podnews RSS feed; the "new podcast" trailers RSS feed; a secret one for Siri; and... the chapters file. It's very clearly the Apple Podcasts crawler.

@dave @james @theDanielJLewis Good investigation James, I would say we just have to wait a few days and see if Apple says something. I don't think that they would do the work, ingest the json, publish the spec to trash-it at the end. Probably just something that need re-adjusting.
