If running your program without the correct arguments shoves `man` in my face instead of a usage message, I wish you a very Do Better, Jerk

@SnoopJ I'm not going to wish A Very Anything to that person who I am sure is very hypothetical and not based on anyone specific, they are beyond help

@ricci @SnoopJ I am certain I did not meet this obviously hypothetical person when I was at MIT.

@SnoopJ @ricci my biggest computer-related pet peeve for years was the passive aggressive stub manpages in GNU projects that just said, "for documentation use info". I don't know if GNU stopped being assholes or if distros fix it during packaging, but I haven't seen that stub in years. Still mad about it, though.

@swelljoe @SnoopJ Somehow the texinfo manual is only version 0.77 (last updated 2023) it's not like this software has been around long enough or is widely used enough to reach 1.0 levels of documentation

@nemo This was, in fact, the source of my complaint.I know I've seen other software do this, but this is the worst one.

@swelljoe @SnoopJ @ricci I hated info. A weird ass emacs lite system with like every heading a separate screen. HTMLinfo was at least usable, but it was inherently a crappy system.A few weeks ago, I was wondering if man pages still existed, and if they were still troff, or perhaps had somehow managed to become something like markdown.Good to know they’re still stuck in the 1960s like Scarfolk

@swelljoe @SnoopJ @ricci oh. Wow. The time you spend on the man page is time taken away from more useful work.
