ugh. my git for windows has forgotten how to send my private key. that's annoying because I specifically set that up! something must have fucked my git command and now it's broked

development on windows is in that weird state now where you can pretty easily use things like git, but unfortunately there might be three different programs trying to give you a git command, and they will stomp on each other's toes

ah-ha! git for windows comes with its own copy of ssh, but I have a different copy of ssh ahead of that ssh in my PATH.so when I set GIT_SSH_COMMAND=sshit uses my separate ssh, and without it, it uses git's ssh.

oh god it's not even using that ssh! it's using a third ssh! C:\Program Files\Git\setup.ini contains:GIT_SSH=C:\Program Files\PuTTY\plink.exe

@foone glad im not alone in having to deal with git on windows hellLast time for me it was mingw not knowing what my $USER path was because my windows user folder name and username don't match

@foone I wanted to reply to the prevous toot that it's a similar hassle than with ssh on windows, and it turns out it IS an ssh issue.

@foone one time we found a second ssh installed on someone’s workstation then discovered it was installed on everyone’s workstations then figured out it was reaping and reporting passwords whereupon three of us ran down to the basement and pretty much ripped the fiber optic lines out of the switch.we were down for more than a week, reloading everything (a hundred or so systems) from CD. good times!
