West Virgina was only able to happen in the context of the Civil War. Breaking any state up into multiple states in the modern era is arguably even less feasible than letting a state secede outright. I certainly don't have faith in Trump to do anything but be occasionally entertaining and muddy the waters for Capitol Hill. He's useful for that much. Doesn't matter much if multiple competing factions desire disarmament if they're too busy trying to throw each other in prison to cooperate. Trump is a tool useful for specific things, much his Elon, his best friend turned nemesis. My whole political philosophy banks on these guys getting the occasional W that works for me while all their worst tendencies result in more Ls for them due to power struggles than results in any actionable policies against shit I care about. It's worked out so far. Not because of any control I have over the situation at large, obviously, but because of the chaotic playing field it has created.
