Ok this has to be a bit at this point, I'm not fucking Irish, I'm not British, I'm not Amish, I don't come from the Middle East, I am Australian, my great grandparents come from Wales but I have never left Australia

@BrodieOnLinux Why wouldn't you ever leave Australia? I thought that was the goal of that game. Spawn in a high level aggressive location, beat/escape all the predators and raid bosses and go smurfing in pvp in some low-level environment.

@elly I think it's pretty normal that if you live in other countries or interact with a lot of people outside your country your accent tends to meet at some sort of average between all of those places.

@elly My accent is also a little bit strange, I used to live in rural Australia and had a stronger accent but it's evened out over the years

@BrodieOnLinux as an Australian who has been to several countries, I always got asked if I was from the UK or the USA. Only a few people realised I was Australian.

@chadmed @elly I can turn up the accent more for regular discourse, it's not just not how I naturally speak but if I'm talking about anything tech related it hurts my brain to work out how to use it.

@neal @chadmed @elly In countries where English isn't the native language it is also heavily dependent on the source of English you most often hear, there's this funny video of a Chinese guy who sounds like he lives in downtown New York. A similar thing has also been observed in America with kids that spend all day watching Bluey, a lot of them pick up Australian vernacular and accent traits
