@Dan_Ramos Jesus Christ! The US will surely fall if this continues! =( On the other hand, things are not better in europe. I've heard similar stories. I teach, and I meet 20-30 year old with the personality and maturity of children. Needless to say, any person who brings their mother to their interview with me, will _not_ get the job. Fortunately I am lucky, my partners are all self-sufficient, mature, hardworking and brilliant!

@h4890 I get consulted to do job interviews with my bosses. I absolutely KNOW they wouldn't and I wouldn't approve of this. We have very high standards and this wouldn't even get through the first phase of interviewing.

And why I am (finally, as Gen X, not afraid to say), If theses morons are MY generation, the ass whopping we gave our "friends" as kids was training, for how we now get our friends together and whoop some ass on the "gen X" that is part of our generation that caused this.. @Dan_Ramos I’m going to go out on a limb, and offer somewhat an alternative possible explanation. We’re all aware that getting meaningful employment these days very often boils down to “who you know”. What if this is more of an outgrowth of that ? Kind of grasping some straws but numbers like that make it look like a big sweeping cultural shift that really implies a two-way street.

That established, what if it’s developed to such a point that showing up to the interview with one or both parents is often expected, and actually improves the odds of getting the job ? I certainly never had any such experience, but those numbers are big enough to suggest some outside-the-box consideration may be warranted.

You can wean these kids onto a subscription pod service, once they feel it's safe to leave mummy and daddy, with no space for kids to run around or achieve any sense of self-determinism. I really believe that you can't own anything without owning land - everything you own is just on borrowed time.I (foolishly) have enough faith in humanity that I think most parents wouldn't buy into this without being propagandized. "Pick yourself up by your bootstraps" isn't even the "wrong" message on an individual level, it's just delivered with no acknowledgement that the current reality is very different to the reality of boomers or gen x. I think an uninfluenced parent would see their kid send out 100+ job applications and realize the answer is obviously not to "give up" but it's also not to berate them for being useless either.Maybe "let's shit on your kids" just sells better as a headline and I'm wrong about everything. @sun @Dan_Ramos "kids these days" is an attitude as old as time but I think the desire to be proud of your children is being intentionally crushed and it probably started long before millennials. There's also a sense of "oh it's my turn to shit on the younger generation" which you can even see in millennials to a certain extent (although it's mostly harmless ribbing).
