Listening to Chippy on RNZ, it seems that our having signed up for the #CPTPPA agreement has tied our hands regarding blocking 'golden passports' for wealthy foreigners wanting to 'buy into' Aotearoa, like Thiel did. Wonder what benefits ordinary NZers get from our compromising our sovereignty, ceding it to multinational corporations? I'd vote the heck out of a party that promised to pull us out of 'restrictive "Free" Trade Agreements' like CPTPPA.

It's important to note that both major parties ended up supporting the pro-corporate #CPTPPA, even after Labour actively campaigned against it. Both are neoliberal ideologues. We need a progressive, corpo-skeptic party running our gov't. Because corporations - especially multinationals - have zero interest in Aotearoa as anything other than a population & environment to convert into shareholder value, never mind who has to pick up the pieces.

I propose we consign *both major parties* to the minor party scrap heap. We need a new pre-eminent political force in Aotearoa. And it needs to be progressive - think Mamdani. So that there's an actual choice for the people, not just a couple equivalent (Nat'l & Labour) pro-corporate neoliberal figure heads who differ only in their empty lip service.

@lightweight How much longer do we have to keep trying to make Neoliberalism work? Oh, I guess it IS working for a select few...

@rob indeed. Which is why I've finally got off the fence and joined the party I want to help influence to become the major party.

@lightweight @rob I sympathizeBut the Green party (I've been a member since McGillicuddy Serious Party folded) is not destined to be a major party. Our job in the Greens is to push the envelopePolitics is "the art of the possible" and it is no coincidence that electoral systems like ours end up with two equalish parties. The Greens need to be one step past that, at all times.

@worik @rob yes, it's a delicate balance to strike... I am, however, quite convinced that, for example, the US would've elected Bernie Sanders had he be an option rather than being torpedoed by the DNC due their neoliberal aversion for anyone who threatens their corporate hegemony (i.e. SuperPACs, etc.). Mamdani (in NYC) has, I think, shown that a brash democratic socialist (i.e. progressive) position can gain substantial support in stressed communities.

@worik @rob what I mean to say with all that is: perhaps the Greens could have 'mass appeal', if they're sufficiently decisive about their policy positions, e.g. substantial increases in wealth taxes, strong stimulus, e.g. heavy investment in infrastructure and public services (health & education), with rolling back of (non)Free Trade Agreements & tax breaks for the very rich.
