Have I sold my soul? I was sadly offered to talk a bit about equality at a school for 200 EUR per hour. I've been wrestling with this job, should I drop it, should I offload it to a colleague or a woman? In the end I decided to do it but scrap the material of the school which is clearly biased towards the socialist definition of equality (outcome). Instead, I will host a philosophical discussion about why/why not equality, and just guide the discussion without taking any positions myself.

I think that is about as good as I can make it within the restrictions of the school (the customer). Should they complain and say that I must talk ideology and socialism, I will just not accept the job next time.

@amerika Hahaha... yes, if I had no other business with that company, that would indeed be fun. To go out with a bang! ;) But I much prefer to gently circumvent their B.S. and try and get the students to think for themselves.

@h4890 As someone who worked as a teacher in the indoctrination camps I feel your dilemma!The best you could do is start with an emotional appeal as to why people may value equality. Then distinguish between equality and equity.Give the 'positives' and negatives of both of these. Smart students will get it if you present it neutrally.If you dare - point out why equality in the form of 'positive rights' violate the concept of negative rights - and are therefore not rights.

@h4890 200 EUR - wow!Is it a private school?Is it a public school - and therefore funded via theft?Considering liberty can only come about through education, is using the platform of the state justified - particularly when the theft is unavoidable anyway?

@anarchotaoist Let's see how far I dare to take it. ;) But yes, I think the neutral angle, and acting more as a facilitator than a teacher is a good start. Depending on how the wind blows, I might throw in a few argument or expose a few fallacies here and there! =)

@anarchotaoist My hope here is that this is remote only, and no one really cares as long as the students pass. So I don't think any other teacher will ever be aware of what I say in my classes.

@anarchotaoist It is a private school, that is financed by a public system. The worst of two worlds, basically. Your question is very important and it is something I often think about! My conclusion is, that since the state makes up at least 50% of all markets in western europe, either directly or indirectly, we simply cannot be purists. My justification is that what I earn, regardless of source, is used to increase my freedom. It is better that I earn it, than that I steal it, and if I do

@anarchotaoist count all the taxes I have paid in my life, the least I can do is to take them back. Then, of course, what I earn is used to let me live the life I want, it gives me time. That time is partly spent on helping fight the memes of the state and socialism, and promote freedom. So my belief is that, yes, my earnings are justified.
