@eriner While I would never put that much effort into something like this, I have always wondered what the architectural logic is behind those stupid high roof foyers with the windows way up at the top.I hired a contractor to build me a balcony across that area connected to my office. So now I can look out those windows and down upon my peasants, er, neighbors.

I think this was inspired by treenets (or tree weaves, tree webbing, etc.)And yes, it's AWESOME.This guy is: https://www.youtube.com/@Charlieswebs who does these for a living. The previous video is: https://www.youtube.com/@justinflom, a magician turned guy who makes "silly videos".

@eriner I hear their architect no longer speak to them.

@EvolLove pft, when was the last time anyone spoke to the architect? Why worry about that guy when you can make your own totally awesome code-questionable bouncy rooms that, while structurally overkill, are a nightmare for the civil engineer at your county’s code enforcement office?Hmm, what does code say about receptacle height above the paracord-oline floor? Oh, it doesn’t say anything about that? Cool, man.

@eriner That is what makes it funny. Imagine if they would have hired an architect and he/she sees that for some reason. I thought of that as funny. There are good and bad architects and people should be allowed to draw their own houses and building codes are for cucks :pepe_chad:

I was only half joking.Should I tie together a corded play-place / loft above the living room? Then I could finally clean the skylights and change the bulbs of the lights on the beam…Also consider the (short-lived) surprise of home intruders when they’re repelled from above by a spider-monkey with 5.56.

@eriner here in Italy we call it antresola. Not a bad idea in general if you're looking to expand your living space. The thing is that it generally gets fuckin' hot up there in the summer so you'll be spending a ton of air-conditioning. Always a tradeoff....

@eriner probably depends on how you feel about every visitor seeing your kids' play area (that's how it will look, I would think).

@eriner — I wonder how easy it will be to keep clean, especially from cobwebs and dust. If it goes awhile unused and then gets a bunch of use again, everything/everyone below could get showered with dust.

@eriner I would vote against. it's a good looking home/room as is. After the novelty wore off, you'd have a web of paracord all the light from the skylight would be filtering through, and I can't imagine a way to construct something like that without completely clashing with the aesthetics of the space.

@DaddyO > clashing ... aestheticsKids have no use for such things. Also, I could either use black or a brown paracord color of a decent color match to the wood.> web of paracordWhen I inevitably cut it, I could always move it outside and up into a tree, or just use it as an overkill tie-down for my trailer.

@eriner >Kids have no use for such thingsI disagree on this one. Cultivating an appreciation for beauty, order, and design is part of what separates the civilized man from the barbarian and low-IQ tribal grunt.Don't let American "functionality uber alles" rule the day.

@rw I don’t mean this flippantly, but I don’t really care what visitors think. It’s our house, I’m weird, and they are visitors. They’re welcome to leave. This was once our dining room, the first room you see upon entering the front door. The kids are young, it won’t always be like this, and they love it.I’d say it’s usually cleaner but this shows how Sisyphean that job is.
