@stux You should maybe clarify that the only identity checking Mastodon has build in is the verification of a web page.(For others who read this: Go to /settings/verification on your instance. Or "Settings > Public Profile > Verification". There can you read how to do that.)

@stux Thanks to the work you and your moderation friends do, I've never gotten even ONE of those false authentication messages here on mstdn.social.That scam where a bot pretended to be a young woman a few months ago? I heard about it from friends on other instances, but none of those messages ever got to me. And in almost three years, I can count the number of spam messages on my feed on one hand. Thank you!

@stux I got one of those messages from someone who looked like they'd been posting a while (2017). Normal, nonsense kind of stuff. Then all the sudden they blasted out hundreds of post replies telling people they need to verify.Don't become a zombie, folks!
