Apparently they’ve been so popular that since I bought mine, they’ve also introduced a range with built-in USB ports! https://www.sanwa.co.jp/product/syohin?code=TAP-SLIMSW8-1

@PRNENothing to do with capitalism, everyone had a fair share of idiocy with power plugs and sockets, including USSR and China. That ground wire that you have to screw in yourself, looks particularly bad, but I still have this Soviet charger for 9 volt batteries somewhere, it uses the same plug, but has a 127/220V switch that is super-flaky, damn, the charger as a whole is 🤪Doesn't look safe at all! @moffintosh @kalleboo

Please make whatever subtext there text. It's the common text in reaction to something eccentric online, plus I suspected that we didn't even federate>Second; I also want to make sure I’m following your reply. Specifically I’m interested in how the word “indigenous” is used here. What is the group focused on here with “indigenous cultural output?” Definitely approaching from a semantics angle but specifically to address what I can see myself misunderstanding. The domestic culture, with e.g. France, you have french cinema and bande dessinées, I didn't mean original settlers

@thedandeliongrove @EeveeEuphoria >Just tell me that you think I’m a wacko who...Yes, I think you're a wacko but I also think I'm a wacko and that most people on fedi are too and I think that's a positive, I didn't say that I didn't like your style, I think that your prose is eccentric which is also a positive. And I mean, the net doesn't really like normalcy and "normalfag" is (or was, maybe?) a popular term for outgroup>Thanks for the words clarification. So, I do believe such use for “indigenous” is absolutely misleading… as part of...>… yeah that in my opinion is a fucked use of the word...That's mostly how I've seen it used in Europe, with "native" as a synonym but they depend on the context, like you need a foreign nation to have context in the way I used it. I guess you can use foreign and domestic to the same effectBut yeah, white americans can be called indigenous if you collectively use a term for american citizens in context to a foreign group>nationalism and uniformity of cultureYeah, that's a trend since the enlightenment with national values and public education that came to instill them and inadvertently killing off dialects and cultures and it makes sense that Japan would spearhead it in Asia since they became a great power>This has then led me further to understanding that there is no uniformity in...I don't think there's uniformity in most culture but there's still aspects and values that are shared between a lot of the population and it affects others like the "americanness" you mentioned, even if the affected are also supposedly white like in Europe>weeaboos aren’t mindless, they’re the product of systemic forces explicit and implicit...Yeah, I see the soft power a lot, their embassy hosts events and festivals frequently, I remember when I was growing up and the economy had just collapsed and countries were sending humanitarian aid, Japan was sending cultural exports, mainly martial arts and language teachers with more soft power but I think popularity of other media wanes among younger people and that's a bigger contributing factor to the popularity of Japanese media>although my understanding of conspiracism is as an expression of inter-group...I'm not sure I understand you here but I didn't use "conspiracy" to say that your knowledge is faulty, I used it as "organized, intentional plan to act" which I think it either isn't or if it is, it's irrelevant because others culture would do the same if in their place and it's supposed to be counteracted the same way by domestic actions, if I'm putting "blame" on anyone for the popularity of Japanese media and the things that come with it, it would be the indigenous/domestic/whatever writers/producers/actors/etc for not counteracting it with their ownI'm also not sure what you mean by the sides of the inter group conflict, if it's the spread of Japanese culture, then from my own POV, Japanese cultural dominance is preferable to an american oneI don't do much research on the subject, mostly watch lectures that colleagues in the field record and share with me, or ask them for materials directly and there's also an anglophone account on youtube that I follow, ReligionForBreakfast that has done presentations on Shinto

@alexI stand corrected. I never had problems plugging my chargers into french sockets, but on second thought it probably was because the don't have an earth pin ...Also note, "Although the plug is polarised, CEE 7 does not define the placement of the live and neutral and there is no universally observed standard."Most of the EU doesn't have polarized plugs. Modern devices simply do not need them.@kalleboo

@niconiconi @moffintosh @PRNE @kalleboo This. Not only in Japan, but several countries of Latin America. We're not so worried about grounding, not because negligence, but because the wiring doesn't have live/neutral wires. They're both insulated. In fact, shoddy grounding can be worse than none at all, because it can expose high voltages to the user.

It’s surprisingly hard to push in, and the plug won’t slide back and forth once you have.

@matty @kalleboo Japanese electrical standards are set up to protect from short circuits, not ground faults. It's kinda wild.

@christmasman @matty @kalleboo even in the US how to ground, where to ground and "why does it connect to neutral" is poorly understood.once, first disconnect from service ( assuming no on-site power generation )

@matty @kalleboo At the bare minimum it still works for fire protection, which is probably more important in an earthquake prone country like Japan. From what I've gathered off the renovation channels I watch; most electricians will install GFCI at the panel if it's not possible to run 3 wire throughout the structure.

@matty @kalleboo @christmasman looks useful :02_shrug: the cheap power strips I've taken apart are essentially the same thing internally except I'm stuck with whatever spacing they gave me for each outlet

@deprecated_ii @matty @kalleboo Considering they're also designed for 100v, they'd probably be just fine for use anywhere else in the world so long as you're not dealing with ground sensing electronics.

@kalleboo it is a mysterious asian thing.Asians are subhuman reptiles pretending to be human, for them saving face is like a psychopath pretending to be an upstanding citizen, it's a survival mechanism, their life depends on it.

@ananas @kalleboo Yeah, I think only way it could be a danger is due to the pins being too close to each others as that could risk shorts but you could add some distance.
