TL;DR It doesn't matter which #messenger app you use on your smartphone. Authorities can identify you either way. If you want anonymity, hope to get it with Tails/Whonix for starters.I wonder why lots of discussions on #Signal vs. #Threema revolve around one being better at protecting your identity than the other, e.g. Threema doesn't need your phone number and Signal uses this and that Cloud and falls under U.S. jurisdiction. That's not what matters. Both are usually installed on Google and Apple smartphones. And, you need to provide your ID for the purchase of a SIM card. It's easier for authorities to find means to break the OS or to just check what SIM card is in use than taking the detour over reaching out to Threema/Signal to identity you. Therefore, it's not surprising that chat control is "just" about breaking confidentiality of communication. Signal as well as Threema are good at keeping your communication confidential. So, don't worry and use either one of those two.
