@boilingsteam I've found sometimes I have _no choice_ but to sideload, because sometimes an update will break an essential app, and sideloading is often the only way to roll back a version.

@boilingsteam nearly my entire app library is side loaded through @accrescent and #obtainium so this power play from Google would probably trash my phone workflow if I weren't also using #grapheneos instead of stock android. Won't affect alternate OS users at all.

@boilingsteam I think the term sideloading is very strange. "Side" in relation to what? F-Droid is my preferred/main source, and if I can't find it there, I use Aurora Store to download from Play Store.They talk a lot about Android being an "open platform" in the post, but the term sideloading still implies that it's Google's platform and that Play Store ought to take the place of the main repository, which imo clashes with the framing of Android as an open platform.

@palladiumasteroid Linux is an option, but good luck banking and doing official government stuff on a Linux phone. Nothing will work there, and such institutions are loving the duopoly.

@boo_ Android was never "FOSS", they just dump part of the code now and then and call it a day - it's fake open-source at best, with absolutely no intent to make things easy for contributors and to respect end users.

@boilingsteam @boo_ with locked bootloader, it is source-available now. Should have listened to RMS when he warned about tivoization.@karolherbst btw locked bootloader is example where GPLv3 would help user.
