@elementals during the MOGAI movement of thought, a bunch of awkward thesaurus overusing preteens would say that bisexuals and pansexuals were implicating certain problems (transphobia for bisexuals for instance) and it had these people fighting for their life to defend that identity. I dont really care what people call themselves anymore (i struggle to care that I call myself communist for instance) but i cant help but think in spite of good naturedness to the contrary the MOGWAI ppl were kinda cooking with that one.

@elementals and say what you will of the the MOGAI movement but we have it to thank for at least popularizing the term 'sapiosexual'. which while not perfect is a great way to barrier out overly horny people with a very polite 'fuck off'.

@elementals the main reason I think this is outdated personally is that stuff like 'pyrogender' instead later on formulated as 'kinnings' of fictional characters or animals. IMO the MOGAI movement ofixated on gendered reconditionings as a point of liberation. Why go through these secondary explanation when you can just say something like 'I feel like Firefly irl and I have a Firefly speaking to me in my head a lot of the time.' Plurality, kinnings, communes, etc. were always going to be the toure de force of posthumanist becoming. I think the MOGAI movement was simply too suburban and humanist and I say this as somebody who used to come from that background. However I always get a little annoyed when people throw that experiment out disparingly. It was a genuinely novel experiment and I wish the internet was doing more things like that. That said I think the main proponents against MOGAI never adapted to the 'posthuman' iterations so I dont know how much an issue this is.

@Erato_Heti @elementals @kittenlikeasmallcat is it gender or is it sex assigned at birth? sure, most of the time, it's better to talk about the person's specific current genitals rather than assume that all amabs have dicks and all afabs have coochies, but isn't it sometimes useful to talk about someone's birth sex? it's also not really a dichotomy to me if you include the myriad intersex sexes

@Erato_Heti @elementals i don't think bisexual has to be defined in a transphobic way. if it's attraction to men/women then it should always include binary trans people, and (as i prefer) if it's defined as "attraction to two or more of any gender" then i think that's even better

@Willow @elementals I dont think so either I just think it tends to indicate a negation of political lesbianism, which I'm fairly extreme about in my personal life. If somebody says they are bisexual my personal first assumption is that they will bring men around the house if I try to cohabitate with them so based on what I want to build its a red flag.

@Willow @elementals But the core of this discussion is between you and elementals. I used the 'MOGAI might have been right' thing to express way more complex sentiments and fears. I've engaged in pretty open 'biphobia' on main a couple years ago to but now I'm over it and just take it as a given almost everyone I talk to in person is going to say stuff thats not really my business to immediately dig into.

@Erato_Heti @Willow @elementals yea people can talk about actual effective reproductive sex but unless someone is literally doing a reproducing for some inane reason what even is the point this too is meltingreproductive sex isn't even very closely linked with other ways of calling sex and gender and all this other hoo-haa. dyadic, non-intersex, reproductively viable & discrete bodies aren't as commonplace as one might imagine, certainly not enough to structure a society on, even if that structure is ostensibly permeable there isn't, has never been, and will never be anything remotely passing as an effective gender or sex binary outside of the imaginations of deeply colonialized nonthinking breeders
