many of the ride-or-dies on nostr are refugees banned from the rest of the internet. the people who are not offending The Algorithm have no real incentive to stay, and so they don't.#nostr is for freaks. always has been, always will be. except for primal, which will always be Jack's bleeding heart for the "old days" of twitter.“I Am Jack's Medulla OblongataI Am Jill's NippleI Am Jack's ColonI Am Jack's Raging Bile DuctI Am Jack's Cold SweatI Am Jack's Complete Lack of SurpriseI Am Jack's Inflamed Sense of RejectionI Am Jack's Smirking RevengeI Am Jack's Broken Heart”― Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club

You only need a critical mass of people for a platform to be worth using, and it isn't millions. Facebook needs millions or billions of users because they want all the money, but having enough people for a fulfilling feed is enough for most users.

If your friends are there, you go there, and never think about it again. Facebook got in the first with the most, although I see a lot more people now who refuse to use it or the equally odious Instagram.

There is some measure of network effects, and that's why you need to have that critical mass of users, but once you have that critical mass of users so your friends are there, it doesn't matter if a bunch of people who aren't your friends are there.Hypothetically, if you set up a standalone social network that only contained all the people you talk to and not one person more, then at least for you that is the perfect social network, you don't need anyone else.
