While i think the pandemic phase of COVID-19 has largely subsided, SARS-CoV-2 remains endemic—meaning the virus continues to circulate at more stable, manageable levels worldwide. However, endemic doesn't mean mild or harmless. The World Health Organization (WHO) still considers the global public health risk from COVID-19 to be high, due to continued viral circulation, unpredictable evolution, and ongoing burden on health systems. Globally, SARS-CoV-2 test positivity has climbed back to 11%, levels not seen since July 2024—driven by increased activity in the Western Pacific, Southeast Asia, and Eastern Mediterranean regions. In the U.S., COVID activity is rising: wastewater markers moved from low to moderate, with infection growth recorded in 45 states. The West, South, and parts of the country are seeing especially elevated activity. COVID-19 continues to pose serious risk—especially to older adults, immunocompromised individuals, and those with underlying medical conditions (e.g., cancer, heart/lung disease, diabetes, obesity)Here's what you (and we) need to do, stay Updated with vaccination. Vaccines—especially updated formulations—continue to be the strongest defense against severe disease. The AAP recommends vaccinating children ages 6 to 23 months, plus older children in high-risk groups, despite more nuanced federal guidance. Also, good practice includes good hygiene (handwashing, sanitizing). Improve indoor air quality (ventilation, air filtration). Wear masks in crowded or high-risk settings when transmission is elevated. Stay home when sick.
