I'm designing a simple arduino-mozzi-based synth and I'm surprised that virtually none of the projects or examples I found are dealing with (or even mentioning) the fact that PWM audio output has a significant DC offset. I guess I learned something since I built my first similar DIY synth sometime during the COVID lockdowns

once I tackle the problems I see I'll probably need to write a blog (which I don't have atm, lol)btw, I'm designing this synth for a workshop I hope to conduct in a local hackerspace. And I plan to make the design open source, so I'll keep y'all posted

the plan is to make this thing usb-powered/standalone and convertable to eurorack. I hope I'll be able to pull this off. It should be fun

and it's literally based on the first synth I ever built (and then modded to my taste), and it's kinda fun to revisit it since my understanding of this stuff quite improved since then

Here it is assembled. I'm pretty happy how it turned out, and it seems to mostly work fine, apart from the noisy output when powered via USB (maybe it was a shitty psu, need to investigate it a little more)

someday I'll remember that it's not a good idea to randomly assign arduino pins in kicad thinking that it'll work with my code just by changing the pins config (looking at you, D13)

I had similar problem with the first PCB I made for Gravity. Nothing that a cut trace and a bodge wire won't fix, but it seems like there's a pattern here

here are some (semi)horrible noises and glitches while I'm still fine-tuning the values of the FM firmware

while I'm waiting for new boards which should slightly improve the the usb noise situation, here's a flamingo in modular (although not screwed into case)

there's still some room for fine-tuning, but it seems like I settled on most concepts for FM firmware. also shout out to @stonefromthesky for testing it and giving some valuable feedback

btw, anyone up to have a look at schematics for sanity check before I order the PCB? I'm still to check some parts on the protoboard, but I have the impression that it should work fine

flamingo can now also be a dub siren with a gnarly industrial-sounding filter. just finished making alternative firmware, now I think I need to make some jungle

and flamingo is there as a reference to the first synth I built. and, you know, FM as in FlaMingo...
