PrismForge (A minecraft mod launcher) has a kinda hilarious response to no-external-downloads mods. See it can load modpacks from curseforge, but the individual mod files are sometimes marked as no-external-downloads, so it can't automatically download them. so instead it gives you a list of all the URLs to download, and says "go download these"

except it links directly to the "your download will start in 5 seconds" page, and it also watches your Downloads folder for those files to appear

so it's really just asking you to open a bunch of tabs, wait 5 seconds, then it'll slurp the JARs right out of your downloads folder

it's such an obvious artificial barrier. could the program automatically download those mods anyway? yes. will it do that? no.but it'll make it as automatic as possible!

@foone I was here when curseforge added the option to disallow 3rd party downloads and honestly I don't even remmeber why they did that(and iirc it started off by default on all new projects (with existing ones set to yes) and after enough complaining it was turned to "nothing is checked by default")

@foone it also scans the default download folder for them. so once firefox finishes downloading prism just goes cool and slaps it in the install process. :neocat_woozy:
