So our mayor is famous for this video where he talks about places your kid might be hiding drugs. Classic 80s paranoia. Perhaps we should have paid more attention to his "sneak craft" game: recently this same man was responsible for a cash money bribe given to a reporter ... in a greasy bag of potato chips. YES.I think for NYC our dislike of the mayor isn't just about his corruption, it's also about how BAD he is at being corrupt. https://youtu.be/sk2Wc4Y5CxE?t=187https://www.nbcnews.com/now/video/eric-adams-adviser-suspended-after-giving-reporter-chip-bag-with-cash-inside-245503045743

No only is he sneaking and stealing and passing around bribes they are not very large bribes and he's bad at it and always gets caught. It's so embarrassing for NYC.Yeah, he's running for mayor again. There are other options.

@futurebird You have to be a very special kind, not just of sleazy, but of… cheapassed halfshit to turn in a bribe with grease.

@futurebird I saw an article a while ago which looked at the sums that national-level politicians had been caught taking in, err..., "undeclared gifts". They were remarkably small -- like, few even topped £10k.Conclusion: Politicians are *cheap*.

@darkling I've kidded about crowd funding one. You know if they pay more attention to the concerns of one shady dude who give them 10k than 5000 constituents who give them 5 bucks each... maybe we should simply pretend to be a single shady dude.

The lady from Adam's campaign who gave the chip bag bribe is trying to say "it's part of Chinese culture" ... there was also a red envelope in the chip bag. But why was it HIDDEN in a chip bag?And who is this reporter your unmarried niece???? No. Good lord.

@lappenjammer The Adams aid gave the reporter a bag of chips and she found the bribe when she opened it on the subway. Free snacks are somewhat normal for these things.

@futurebird I've been thinking that the red envelope was a harebrained preemptive excuse if it got exposed. Or could have been an inside joke for her own amusement

@futurebird Free Snacks at campaigning is somewhat unusual here. I can see the potential for putting messages on the outside or even inside. To bribe people is quite something.

I've always thought - it's not just the money they get caught with. It's the money they don't get caught with. It's having an in with wealthy and powerful people who will invite you to fancy parties and other donor friends. And fluff your ego and make you feel important. Etc. They don't need normie money.@futurebird @darkling

@JessTheUnstill @darkling Well that's why we should make up a fake billionaire donor. The same contributions, but with that extra sheen that gets them so excited. I can think of some way to fake the parties too.

It'd be so easy to do a parody of this video "Combating Political Corruption"If Eric Adams is coming to your house after he is gone it is very important to Check the pillowcases, he might have put bribes in there. Check the chip bags! You could fit *several* bribes in this "share size" bag.In these trouble times also search the mayor's house for bribes he has received. Sometimes a politician's aid will try to disguise a bribe in a red envelope and call it "Chinese Culture" Don't fall for it!

@futurebird @darkling I suspect the accepting of petty bribes is just a way to signal that you are on a given side; why take the risk otherwise? The real payout comes after you leave politics / through another channel.

@futurebird I feel like the "could/could not make it in New York" is such a point of pride in terms of the city's identity—New York is supposed to be the extreme difficulty setting for success.I think that's low key why the NYT can never bring itself to lean into "DJT is a total fraud and a conman" angle because he was a NYC success story and you're not supposed to be able to fool New Yorkers like that.

@BenAveling You have a point. And we REALLY need to start searching all of the pillowcases and chips bags anywhere near that man. Because I now think he legit is like that other politician who had gold bars hidden all over his house. Gremlin behavior. Smaug the dragon behavior.
