I had a bit of a realisation the other day. I was wondering why I'm nostalgic for what's essentially just old timey corporate products (Amiga, Sun Microsystems, Classic Mac Stuff, etc) and then it dawned on me.These things had to survive on the merit of being good products. They weren't constantly trying to fuck me over or harvest my data/money.

@guffo But the desire for lockin and control was ever present. IBM had and exercised that power.Once small companies like DEC and DG were run by engineers -- initially and indeed, had to make good products for the reasons stated here. But the capitalist corporate structure is and was inherent in all of them. DEC turned into a shit company that made shit products. I don't understand nostalgia for corporations. The two Steve's made great stuff at Apple. Now apple is shit like the rest.

@guffo There are things to celebrate in there. Celebrate them. Wozniak, Atkinson, etc. and thousands of unnamed staff. But not the corps.
