       Spent a couple of hours with #LinuxCafé #Graz and then #LinuxInstallParty at @diekometin Helped a bunch of people deciding on #Linux distribution for their first time Linux experience. Explained a lot. Guided through parts of their installation experience.Was great fun, helping "normal users" with their first steps in a new direction.Most older notebooks would not qualify for #Win11 anyway. And so they get top of the art software with much better update support and less hazzle/issues or security issues to worry about. 👍#PIM #EndOf10 #FOSS

       @benmezger @diekometin Oh, that was mixed.AFAIR: 1x Debian 13 GNOME, 1x PopOS!, 2x Mint/CinnamonWe had plenty of USB drives for live testing upfront.

       @publicvoit @diekometin interesting, I would have expected Debian or even Ubuntu to be at the top. I can imagine a lot of beginners may go for Mint because of Cinnamon being similar to Windows. Long time ago I’ve participated in a few of those communities to help elderly run Linux, though we were focusing more on Debian, still when Gnome 2 was a thing.

       @benmezger @diekometin My personal recommendation would be Debian stable + GNOME.10yrs ago it would have been Xubuntu.

       @publicvoit Pretty sure it's either "top of the line" or "state of the art" but not "top of the art". 🙃

       @publicvoit @benmezger @diekometin A curiosity.What's your distro? Do you use flatpaks?

       @quijote_libre @benmezger @diekometin I don't see any reason to use flatpaks as long as it's installable via standard Debian package management.

       @publicvoit @benmezger @diekometin I only used them to get the latest version of Firefox, Thunderbird, and Emacs on Debian 12.But only because I can't understand backports.In the end, I decided to skip Arch to avoid using them, but the Arch repo issues these days don't bother me.

       @quijote_libre @benmezger @diekometin For that, you mostly don't need Flatpaks. Just add alternative source lists.Flatpaks come with multiple downsides such as restricted connectivity to other tools which is a no go in particular for my Emacs as well as my browsers. BTDT.
