       Holy shit.I just did a thing which I did not believe was in my power.I called up my parents-in-law, and in a pleasant but firm tone said "I'd like to invite you to try again with the birthday card, as the one you just sent was not appropriate".And they agreed

       I named the issue, explained what was inappropriate, and gave them an opportunity to fix things. And I was taken seriously.I never would have had the self-confidence to attempt this, prior to transition. I never would have had enough control of my ego state to pull this off, prior to counselling.

       Slight shade to FIL for throwing his wife under the bus. Yeah, I know she picked out the card. And wrote the card. And signed it in your name.You don't get to dodge responsibility just because you dodged emotional labour.
