@tomjennings at first I thought you had one of those decimal feet rulers, which look like they were designed by a very drunk guy to this metric-only person

@tomjennings "An educational apparatus used for the teaching of mathematical operations that use fractions." https://www.freepatentsonline.com/6192594.html go figure 🙂

@tomjennings If it’s a school ruler, my guess would be to help students visualize comparisons between fractional amounts. For example, kids often have trouble internalizing that sevenths are smaller than sixths.

@tomjennings I am sure there's ancient Egyptian scrolls with some kind of "new, better way of teaching math".

@Catawu A retired school math teacher owns it. They're teaching aids for fractions somehow.

@tomjennings I’m thinking it would work for my pastry doughs! 1/3 thicker than… etc. Rolling dough —- over course those marks get pretty deep on that ruler…I’d have dough that is elbow deep! I think it’s a good teaching aid. I thought about it yesterday… a good visual. I’m a visual learner.

@tomjennings an architect's triscale, for making mechanical or architectural drawings with different ratio scales: 1" scale, ¾" scale , ½" scale, ¼" scale, ⅛" scale, etc.
